Mizoram Polytechnic, Lunglei was established in the year 1981 the Govt. of Mizoram with only one Diploma Course in Civil engineering with the intake capacity of 60 students. In the following years in 1986 and 1991, two more new Diploma Courses Viz Electrical and Mechanical Engineering with intake capacity of 30 and 20 students respectively for each discipline were introduced by the State Government. The existing Polytechnic was further strengthened under World Bank Assisted Project by introducing the Diploma course in Computer Science & Engineering in 2001 with intake capacity of 30 students.

Mizoram Polytechnic is one of the various Polytechnics in the country, selected for instutional development under the World Bank under the World Bank Assisted Third Technician Education Project (Tech Ed.-III).
As of today, this Polytechnic offers 3 years Diploma Programmes in the following areas-

In addition to above, two more new Certifate Courses Viz Automotive (Level-I) and Desk Top Publishing (Level- II) are proposed to be introduced under Technical Vocational Education & Training (TVET) schemes from July, 2004.
Mizoram Polytechnic is a co-educational Institute and has a good track record of Technical Education in the State.
The Polytechnic has developed good infrastructure and facilities under World Bank Assisted Project and is continuously striving to keep abreast of thelatest technological developments, with a vision for capacity expansion, quality enhancement and overall efficiency improvement of the Institution.
